Issue I: New Year, new life, new tobacco law…

The menace of a new law hovering over or heads in 2oo7, finally became true this year and, as a smoker, I couldn’t be happier. The propose for banning us from existence is here, is alive and breathing!

To not be able to smoke while drinking a cup of coffee rejoices me in ways that I can’t even start to describe. The law is clear: no smoking in closed spaces, end. I understand and accept that humbly – the smoke damages public health, environment and cakes alike – but there are new propositions for the new regulation and they are gaining more and more strength every passing day. Instead of letting coffee shops dividing the space between smokers and non-smokers, no, one cannot smoke inside a building AND (if the new proposals are approved) one will not be able to smoke in public spaces – open air – AND private spaces.

So, resuming. I have a slow death wish and a fixation for lung cancer. According to the democratic system an individual can do whatever pleases him/her as long it doesn’t hurt their equals or the deed doesn’t put oneself in immediate danger, BUT I can no longer kill myself at a slow hurting pace… not even at home.

Plus, the new signs are discriminating. They don’t say “No SMOKING” like before. No. Those were replaced by “No SMOKERS”. Wait wait, I’m a smoker… I’m not going to smoke in a coffee shop but, according to the signs, I cannot enter also. And now that I think of it, entering hospitals, universities and schools is off limits too… OH MY GOD! Does that mean I will not be able to enter my own house?! I’m going to be homeless! But wait! Smokers cannot dwell in the street! Holy shit! Well, they didn’t invent a sign for water standing. I guess now is a good time to become a mermaid. O maybe to start living inside a whale like Pinocchio.

Seriously now… since no smokers are allowed inside corridors with those signs, one would be infracting the law by entering rooms through doors. Let’s start jumping into windows! Well… I guess in the end what we will be seeing is a lot of spidermen wannabes and death bodies on the floor.

After a year struggling against a tingling pain I changed, my attitude, my online nickname and decided to create this blog in order to bring life to some issues that ran trough my mind within these months. I understand the depths of narcissism contained by the written words in a personal blog and also the risks involved of such exposure, still as my selfish self wrestles against the subconscious no’s, this first post was created.

My intentions are not noble, nor poor. There is no speech of world saving or human damnation (well, maybe some). This is just a small space in a colossal world with no start intentions of growing bigger than it first size.
